Norcross Email Extravaganza Vol. 408
A weekly email that helps Historic Norcross neighbors feel connected, informed, and at home.
DID YOU KNOW...?
Norcross was chartered in 1870 through its founder, J.J. “Cousin John” Thrasher, and named for his friend Jonathan Norcross, Atlanta’s fourth mayor. Cousin John purchased tracts of land, divided them into lots and sold them along the developing Richmond and Danville Railroad. The line’s first train ran to Atlanta in June 1870.
Norcross was officially incorporated on Oct. 26, 1870, with Cousin John serving as its first mayor. He also donated a square acre for a public park, stipulating that it remain one forever and never be used for industrial purposes. That land later became Thrasher Park!
PHOTO OF THE WEEK
Be on the lookout! Snapped by Dave Jones at the corner of Academy and Born (a few weeks ago, so hopefully it found its way back home by now).
Submit a photo to be featured! This can be you/your family, cool critters around town, cozy corners you like to rest in, events, the train, sunsets, etc! It’s up to you - just send your photo and a brief description to norcrosssocial@gmail.com!
