Norcross Email Extravaganza Vol. 406
A weekly email that helps Historic Norcross neighbors feel connected, informed, and at home.
DID YOU KNOW...?
Norcross’ July 3 fireworks tradition began as a downtown revival idea! According to Sherry Johnson, her husband Carl Johnson helped launch the celebration after he and Sherry reopened Johnson’s Store in 1989, at a time when Historic Downtown Norcross was struggling. Local business owners were looking for ways to bring people back into the city center, and Carl suggested holding the Independence Day celebration on July 3 so it would not compete with Lenox Square’s Fourth of July event.
The first celebration went forward without the city’s blessing, but the crowd kept growing. After a few years, the city took it over and helped turn it into the larger tradition now known as Red, White & Boom! Be sure to enjoy year’s celebration tonight from 5-10pm at Lillian Webb Park! There will be live music from The A-Town A-List, face painting, food, fireworks, and more! Find all of the details here.
